Sinabi ng Malacanang na oras na para magtaas ng pamasahe ang Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) at Light Rail Transit Lines 1 at 2 (LRT-1 and LRT-2). Hinihingi nila ang pagunawa ng mga pasahero para sa gagawin nilang paglalagay sa tamang pagsisingil na pasahe.

Naglabas sila ng scheme ng fare matrix kung saan makikita ang magiging presyo ng pasahe sa kada istayon ng mga tren.

Sabi ni Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma, Jr. sa isang interview na napapanahon na para mag taas ng presyo ng pamasahe at ilapit ito sa presyo ng sinisingil ng mga air-conditioned buses, at panahon na rin para itigil na ang mga subsidiyang malaki sa bawat pasahero para mailaan ito sa iba at mahahalagang paglilingkod sa panlipunan na papakinabangan ng milyon-milyong Pilipino.

Paglabas ng balitang ito, may mga grupo ng mga pasahero ang gustong harangan ang pagtataas ng presyo ng pasahe sa MRT-3 at LRT 1 at 2.

Ayon sa Department of Transportation and Communications, simula January 4, 2015, ang MRT-3 at LRT 1 at 2 ipapatupad na ang P11 (base fare) + P 1 (per kilometer) formula. Kada isang kilometro, madadagdagan ng piso ang pasahe.
